Spectrum Festival Recordings & New Bandcamp Page!!

Hi Everyone!

We’re very excited to announce that we have a new Bandcamp page! We’ve uploaded wonderful recordings of two of our Janauary Spectrum Ensemble shows. January 17th at Retro City Studios, which featured performances by Van Sutra, Bog, Sirius Juju, and Archer Spade + Jesse Kudler, and January 31st at House Galery 1816, which featured small improvised groups from a large chunk of the ensemble, plus a big finale!

We’re pleased to offer the recordings of both these concerts as name-your-price, so don’t hesitate to check out the fantastic music!

You can also listen to and purchase our album of compositions written by and for us, Orbital Harmony.

Thanks again to Barry Knob and Eric Carbonara for recording the music and to all the amazing musicians who made it. We’re busy brewing up plans for the next Spectrum events, so stay tuned!

Premier of “Our Private Sky” and recordings on the way!

We’ve been working on Gene Coleman’s “Our Private Sky,” which was commissioned by our Kickstarter campaign back in the beginning of the year, and it’s ready! We’ll be premiering the piece on December 8 at Room 101 in the Penn Music Building. (Earlier in the year, we performed ‘part 1’ of this piece at the International House)

Also on the program is a soundtrack to Chris Marker’s La Jetee featuring Archer Spade with Gene and cellist Tom Kraines, as well as a take on “Mood Indigo.” Why “Mood Indigo”? Read about it over here: http://nickmillevoi.blogspot.com/2012/11/mood-indigo.html

A few months back, we recorded several pieces with engineer Eric Carbonara at Nada Sound Studio. We’ll be posting some clips of those shortly as we finish mixing!

All the news

We’re proud to welcome you to the new internet home of Archer Spade.

A lot of work has been going on behind the scenes this summer and we’re getting ready for some great things. Earlier this year, we ran a Kickstarter campaign to commission 3 new works from Gene Coleman, Dave Soldier, and Johnny DeBlase. In April, we performed part one of Gene’s piece, “Our Private Sky” and we’re looking forward to the completed piece. Dave’s discussed his piece and it’s Egyptian influences with us and Johnny has shown us his notes to his new work. In addition, we’re happy to announce that we’ve decided to work with two new composers, Mick Barr and Jeff Kimmel. We look forward to announcing some premiers in the upcoming future.

Back in June, we debuted the first concert of the Archer Spade Performance Series, which is meant to highlight new and exciting works by our friends and close associates. That concert featured new music by Carl Testa, Broadcloth, and a guitar trio of Travis Woodson, Alban Bailly, and Nick Millevoi that performed works by Woodson, Testa, and Eric Slick.

The second ASPS concert will take place on October 20 in the side chapel at the First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia. This will be a dual record release show that will feature both members of Archer Spade playing separately. Nick will be releasing his new album, In White Sky, and Dan will be playing along with Julius Masri on circuit bent electronics for the release of the debut album by their duo Superlith, Plasma Clusters.

Thanks for visiting – we’ll be seeing you.
